Professor Jean Tirole, Professor at the Toulouse School of Economics, will be awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the Department of Economics on April 8th, 2012. The ceremony will take place at the amphitheater of the Gennadius Library "Cotsen Hall" at 18.30.

Professor Jean Tirole is the Chairman of the Board at the Fondation Jean-Jacques Laffont/Toulouse Sciences Economiques, the Scientific Director of IDEI in Toulouse, the Ingénieur Général des Ponts et Chaussées, the Directeur d'Etudes Cumulant, Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales and Member of the Académie des Sciences Morales et Politiques.

He also was the Director of the Toulouse School of Economics, Member of the Conseil d'Analyse Économique of the Prime Minister and President of the Econometric and the European Economic Association.

He received his PhD diploma from MIT where he worked as a Professor. He is still affiliated with MIT as a visiting Professor.

He received many awards and prizes. He was also awarded the highest award, the Gold Medal or médaille d'or, of the French CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique), in 2007. He is also a Honorary Doctorate of the Université Libre de Bruxelles (1989), the London Business School (2007), the University of Montreal (HEC) (2007) and the University of Mannheim (2011).

From 1993 Prof. Jean Tirole is a foreign honorary member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and of the American Economic Association and according to IDEAS/RePEc he is among the most influential economists in the world.
