AUEB Rector's visit to Beijing, China (12/12-14/2011)

The Rector of the Athens University of Economics and Business and Co-Chair of the Athens Business Confucius Institute's Council,

Professor Konstantine Gatsios, paid an official visit to Beijing, 12-14 December 2011, after being invited by Madame Xu Lin, President of Hanban. The Rector attended the 6th Annual Global Confucius Conference held in Beijing by Hanban,

during which he had the opportunity to meet with Madame Xu Lin and exchange ideas regarding the Athens BCI's further development, not only in cultural and academic matters but, also, in supporting the strengthening of the

business and commercial relations between the two peoples.

During his visit, the Rector had a meeting with Madame Wang Ling, Chair of the University Council of the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE),

and other UIBE's Professors. The Rector and Madame Wang Ling agreed on the development of an even closer cooperation between the two Institutions, including, among others,

faculty and student exchanges, as well as the joint organization of a Hellenic Cultural Festival in Beijing. The meeting was completed with the signing of the newly revised agreement between the AUEB and the UIBE.

During his stay at Beijing, the Rector visited the Greek Embassy in China and met with the Political Counselor, the Cultural Attaché,

and the Commercial First Secretary of the Embassy. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss ways by which the Embassy could support the organization of the Hellenic Cultural Festival in Beijing, especially since 2012 marks the 40th Anniversary of the Establishment of diplomatic relations between Greece and China.

Before leaving Beijing, the Rector arranged a meeting with the AUEB's students who are currently studying at the UIBE under a BCI scholarship and was delighted to hear of their excellent progress.
