Athens University of Economics and Business receives delegates of 16 leading American Universities

 

On Monday, November 7, delegates of 16 leading American Universities visited the campus of the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB), as part of the International Academic Partnership Program, an initiative taken by the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs. The Athens University of Economics & Business received delegates from the following institutions:

The delegates of the American universities were received at the Athens University of Economics and Business by AUEB’s Rector, Professor Dimitris Bourantonis, and the Vice-Rector for International Cooperation and Development, Professor Vassilis Papadakis, who presented the University's work focusing on the strategic goal of internationalization and its actions for the development of strategic alliances and strengthening of the Institution's international educational and research collaborations with higher learning institutions  and research bodies abroad.

On behalf of the American delegation, Mr. Shawn Reynolds of Indiana University, referred to the objectives of their visit and the prospect of collaboration in areas of common interest.

Professor Katerina Pramatari, scientific manager of the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at AUEB, presented the work of the Centre, which has as its main objective the support of business groups during the early stages of their development and the connection of entrepreneurship with the market via open innovation programs.

During the visit, the 16 delegates discussed with members of the teaching staff about collaborations, in a wide range of possibilities, such as joint study programs, creation of summer schools, research collaborations, visits of foreign students to Athens etc.

At the end of the event, AUEB’s Rector, Professor Mr. Dimitris Bourandonis, emphasized that "Today we had the opportunity to meet the delegates of 16 leading American Universities, within the framework of the International Academic Partnership Program, which is an initiative taken by the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs. AUEB’s administration, the deans of the Faculties and the Heads of the Departments after the University’s presentation event, discussed possible collaborations regarding various activities of the interested parties. We are particularly satisfied by the high interest shown by the delegates of the Universities. These collaborations open horizons in research and education for the benefit of our students, staff, and graduates. The strategic goal of AUEB’s internationalization that we have set from the beginning, continues to be fulfilled through such high-level quality collaborations".

International distinction of the Athens University of Economics and Business

in the field of "Finance and Business Administration"

 

The international evaluation agency "US News" ranked the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB) in the 242nd place, distinguishing it as the only Greek University among the top worldwide in the scientific field of "Economics and Business" for 2022- 23.

It is worth noting that AUEB had a particularly high performance in the field criteria regarding the "percentage of publications from international collaborations compared to the corresponding percentage in the whole country", where it ranked 27th worldwide, as well as in the "research reputation of European Universities', where it ranked 36th globally for 2022-23.

US News collected data from the "Web of Science" bibliographic base during the last five years 2016-20, while the ranking evaluation criteria were: a) the research reputation of the University in its scientific domains, b) the number of publications , c) the number and impact of citations, d) the number and percentage of publications that are listed in the top 1% with the most citations, e) the number and percentage of publications that are listed in the top 10% with the most references, as well as f) the percentage of publications from international collaborations.

The Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Personnel of the Athens University of Economics and Business, Professor Vassilis Vasdekis, stated: "The continuous international recognition of the Athens University of Economics and Business is proof of our orientation towards excellence. The scientific work produced enjoys the trust of the international academic community and highlights the high- quality level of our research staff."

A unique distinction for AUEB’s Graduate Programs

 

The graduate programs of the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB) occupy leading positions internationally, according to the authoritative international evaluation organization "Eduniversal Best Masters Rankings" for 2022. The organization ranked a total of 5,500 Masters Programs out of 154 countries worldwide for 2022.

The assessment criteria of the “Eduniversal Best Masters Rankings 2022” include: a) the reputation of the programs, according to the feedback of recruiting companies, b) the employee’s first salary after graduation and c) the satisfaction of recent graduates, as depicted in a satisfaction survey conducted by Eduniversal.

Dual/Double M.Sc. Degree in “Statistics and Financial Analytics”

The Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB), in the framework of its international cooperation and internationalization plan, has signed a new double Master's degree agreement with the Stevens Institute of Technology.  

Stevens Institute of Technology is a university in the Greater area of New York area with a long tradition of over 150 years in academia at the USA. It is internationally recognized for its engineering and business management programs, Stevens' mission is to educate leaders who, with a focus on technology, will solve the most challenging problems of our time. It works with Executives from the world's largest companies in finance, life sciences, technology and media to prepare graduates with excellent career prospects.

According to the agreement, graduates of the full-time M.Sc. in Statistics at AUEB can also complete the M.Sc. in Financial Analytics at the Stevens Institute of Technology. Equivalently, students of the M.Sc. in Financial Analytics at Stevens Institute of Technology can enroll at the full-time M.Sc. in Statistics with the privilege of transferring academic credits. Moreover, the M.Sc. thesis will be common to both programs. Upon completion of their studies, graduates will get two separate degrees in Statistics & Financial Analytics.

The agreement, which was also completed within the framework of the HERMES network of universities to which the AUEB is a member for many years, includes:

  • Mobility of students of the full-time M.Sc. in Statistics of the Athens University of Economics and Business to the M.Sc. in Financial Analytics of the Stevens Institute of Technology (including transfer of academic credits).
  • Mobility of students and graduates of the M.Sc. in Financial Analytics of the Stevens Institute of Technology to the M.Sc. in Statistics of the Athens University of Economics and Business (including transfer of academic credits).
  • Reduced tuition fees at Stevens for students of the AUEB and
  • Joint thesis between the two postgraduate programs. The aim of this action is to promote collaboration between both faculty and researchers at a basic research level.

The Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB) and Accenture in Greece signed a Cooperation Agreement aimed at connecting the academic community with industry and developing joint initiatives to address the skills gap.

Common goal of the two parties is to enhance the interconnection of the University’s students, graduates and alumnus with the company and the broader labor market as well as the latest business thinking and trends, to support entrepreneurship and to strengthen research projects.

Under this Agreement, the two parties agreed to take a series of actions on a wide range of areas including but not limited to:

  • Internships
  • Webcasts and articles at AUEB News on key themes (e.g. top tech trends, Inclusion and Diversity)
  • Career-related and networking events
  • Guest Lectures
  • Reskilling / Upskilling Programs
  • Joint Studies and research initiatives on agreed topics
  • Corporate Citizenship Initiatives

After the signing of the cooperation agreement, AUEB’s Rector, Professor Dimitris Bourantonis, stated: «With very careful steps and high selection criteria, we enter into partnerships with leading companies operating in Greece and abroad, providing students and graduates of AUEB with a broad framework of development and career opportunities. The new innovative collaboration with Accenture supports the Foundation's initiatives for entrepreneurship development, enhances employment and highlights new paths for research».

The Country Managing Director of Accenture in Greece, Dr. Kyriacos Sabatakakis stated: «Our cooperation with AUEB is a testament to our strong desire to strengthen our relationships with top academic institutions in Greece. Bringing together academia and industry in order to address the country’s skill gap is a necessity and an opportunity and the role of the Athens University of Economics and Business towards this direction is of high importance. The collaboration begins with a Summer Study Program in the field of digital business (DigiBiz)

 

The Athens University of Economics and Business, expanding on its collaborations with distinguished educational institutions from abroad, proceeded to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with Michigan State University, USA. Specifically, the two parties agreed to implement a series of activities related to the exchange of faculty, researchers and students, and to carry out joint research.

As part of the collaboration, the AUEB Senate approved the establishment of a Summer Study Program in collaboration with the Michigan State University - Eli Broad College of Business, in the field of digital business (DigiBiz).

The Vice Rector for International Cooperation and Growth, Professor Vasilis Papadakis, stated: “This Summer School is the first to be established at AUEB in accordance with Law 4692/2020 and its goal is to promote knowledge in that area and the training of participants in topics such as Entrepreneurship, User Experience (UX), Digital Marketing, E-Commerce law and in general in the digital skills required by today's job market. We aspire to develop other corresponding Summer Study Programs with prestigious Universities from abroad, in the scientific fields treated by our University."

The Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB) and the Federation of Enterprises and Industries of the Peloponnese & Western Greece signed, on Sunday, June 5th, a Cooperation Agreement aimed at connecting the academic community with entrepreneurship.

A common goal of the two parties is the familiarization of young scientists (students, graduates, and alumni) with business thinking and action, networking and connecting acquired knowledge with the business world and enterprises. At the same time, the purpose of the collaboration is the utilization of the research and the technology that is produced, so that it can be transformed into a productive result.

 

Under this Agreement, the two parties agreed, inter alia, to take a series of actions related to the following Issues:

• Applied Doctoral Research,

• Connection with research

• Connection with Industry

• Connection with innovation

• Skills upgrade

• Digital transformation

• Connection with market executives

• Joint events to develop an entrepreneurial culture

After the signing of the cooperation agreement, AUEB’s Rector, Professor Dimitris Bourantonis, stressed: "Our cooperation with SEV PE & DE, as well as with other bodies of Greek entrepreneurship, seals the link between academic knowledge and research with the real market. It can only bring benefits to the economy and the Greek society. It is our duty towards the new generation to leave behind the legacy of such collaborations ".

The Chairman of the Board of SEV PE & DE, Emeritus Professor Kleomenis Barlos, after the signing of the cooperation agreement, stated: «The cooperation of enterprises with higher learning institutions and research bodies is now a one-way street, for the essential connection with the labour market and the role of the Athens University of Economics and Business is considered very important. I am optimistic that our Agreement will produce very positive benefits for students, young researchers, and companies and will help to prevent brain drain, the departure of young professionals from our country».

Memorandum of Understanding between the Athens University of Economics and Business

with the Hanoi University of Home Affairs in Vietnam

 

The Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Hanoi University of Home Affairs (HUHA), Vietnam. HUHA, having 50 years of experience, is one of the leading public higher education institutions in Vietnam, distinguished for the quality and innovation of its programs.

The MoU between the two Universities aims at the promotion and the continuous educational cooperation for the mutual benefit of both Institutions, with special reference to the following areas:

  • Facilitate the exchange of information and ideas of mutual interest and benefit to both institutions
  • Offer joint training programs for civil servants in Vietnam and the wider region
  • Develop mobility programs for students and teaching staff
  • Expand cooperation opportunities under the European Commission's ERASMUS + program for non-EU students and
  • Organize other exchange activities in academia, education, and training

The agreement was signed on behalf of the Athens University of Economics and Business by the Rector, Professor Dimitris Bourantonis, on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, in the presence of H.E. Mr. Le Hong Truong, Ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, HUHA Vice-Rector Professor Nguyen Quoc Suu, as well as a multi-member group of HUHA executives. AUEB was represented by the Vice Rector for International Cooperation and Development, Professor Vassilis Papadakis and the Dean of the School of Information Science and Technology, Professor Ioannis Kotidis.

The Vice Rector for International Cooperation and Development at AUEB, Professor Vassilis Papadakis, regarding the future of this cooperation, stated: "AUEB’s cooperation with the University of Vietnam creates added value in our research goals and academic cooperation with partners from Asian countries. "SCIENCE AGORA": The first "Proof of Concept" program, regarding environment and energy, starts with the support of Google

 

The Technology Transfer Hub "SCIENCE AGORA", Innovation to Society aims to create a dynamic and integrated ecosystem of utilizing scientific research in Greece with an international impact. In this context, it announces the first "Proof of Concept" program, regarding environment and energy, which it is implemented with the support of Google and in collaboration with five scientific institutions (Democritus Research Centre, ACEin Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation – Athens University of Economics & Business, National Technical University of Athens, ATHENA Research Centre and the Research Institute of Communication & Computer Systems). The program will fund business efforts at an early stage of the evaluation of the research proposal and will support the attraction of additional investments for the development of this proposal.

In this context, we will continue to embrace innovative initiatives, such as Science Agora.
