Professor of Marketing George Avlonitis has been elected President of the European Marketing Academy for the 2008 - 2011 term

George Avlonitis, Professor at the Department of Marketing and Communication of AUEB, was elected President of the European Marketing Academy (EMAC) in the recent elections that took place within 900 members coming from 60 countries. His service will be for three years starting from 2008. It is the first time that the elected President comes from a country of the Southern Europe.

The European Marketing Academy is the top European Academic Commission of Marketing that has emerged from the cooperation of two important scientific institutes: EIASM (European Institute for Advanced Studies in Management) and EFMD (European Foundation for Management Development). Even though the commission's name is European Marketing Academy in fact it has an international orientation, thus it has members from many countries outside Europe, like Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Israel, USA, Canada, China etc. and counts 900 members from all over the world.

The main objective of the European Marketing Academy is the promotion of the Marketing science in regards to enhancing the entrepreneurship and the competitiveness of corporations. To accomplish the above objective, EMAC is organizing every year a scientific conference, which provides the opportunity to the members to present the results of their studies and exchange views and ideas on the future development of the Science of Marketing and its implementation by the corporations. The first conference of EMAC took place in Brussels in 1972, which is also the birth year of the Academy.

Professor Avlonitis has also been honoured as the Vice- President of EMAC during the period 1990- 1993 and for many years he was country representative of Greece in its Executive Committee.
