Efthimios is a tenured Assistant Professor of Accounting in the Department of Accounting and Finance at the Athens University of Economics and Business. He is a member of the Steering Committee of the M.Sc. in International Shipping, Finance and Management. In the past, he served as a member of the Steering Committees of the MBA International and the M.Sc. in Accounting and Finance postgraduate programs. He is also an Adjunct Lecturer in Accounting at the Hellenic Open University.
He holds a Ph.D. in Accounting and an M.Sc. in Accounting and Finance from Manchester Business School. During his doctoral studies, he attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign as a visiting scholar. He also holds a B.Sc. in Business Administration from the Athens University of Economics and Business, the CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner) qualification, and a number of certificates from professional accountancy bodies.
He has received numerous merit-based scholarships and awards from several institutions and foundations, e.g. Propondis Foundation, Bodossaki Foundation, The University of Manchester, Worldwide Universities Network, Hellenic State Scholarships Foundation, Stasinopoulos Foundation (Viohalco), and Chalkiopoulos Foundation. He has also received three Teaching Excellence Awards from the M.Sc. program in Accounting and Finance.
His research interests focus on equity valuation and market-based accounting research. He has published research papers and book reviews in academic journals, such as the European Accounting Review, Accounting Horizons, International Journal of Accounting, and Journal of Applied Accounting Research. He has presented the results of his research at national and international academic conferences. Furthermore, he has a substantial number of publications in Greek professional accountancy magazines and has co-authored two textbooks.
Efthimios has significant teaching experience in financial accounting, cost and management accounting, business analysis and valuation, internal and external auditing, fraud examination, accounting information systems, and contemporary research methods in accounting.
He is a member of the American Accounting Association, the European Accounting Association, the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, the Institute of Internal Auditors, and the Hellenic Finance and Accounting Association.
