Efthimios Demirakos is an Associate Professor of Accounting at the Athens University of Economics and Business. He is currently a member of the Steering Committee of the M.Sc. in International Shipping, Finance and Management. Previously, he served as a member of the Steering Committees of the MBA International and the M.Sc. in Accounting and Finance, as well as Deputy Director of the M.Sc. in International Shipping, Finance and Management.

He holds a Ph.D. in Accounting and an M.Sc. in Accounting and Finance from the Alliance Manchester Business School. During his doctoral studies, he was a visiting scholar at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He also holds a B.B.A. from the Athens University of Economics and Business, the CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner) qualification, and several certificates from professional accountancy bodies (including certificates from AICPA, ACCA, ICAEW and ACFE).

He has received numerous merit-based scholarships from various institutions and foundations, such as the Bodossaki Foundation, Propondis Foundation, the University of Manchester, the Worldwide Universities Network, the Hellenic State Scholarships Foundation, the Stasinopoulos Foundation (Viohalco), and the Chalkiopoulos Foundation. He has also received 11 Teaching Excellence Awards from the Athens University of Economics and Business.

His research interests focus on equity valuation, market-based accounting, external and internal auditing, and forensic accounting. He has published research papers and book reviews in academic journals, including European Accounting Review, Accounting Horizons, International Review of Financial Analysis, The International Journal of Accounting, Journal of Applied Accounting Research, International Journal of Accounting, Auditing and Performance Evaluation, and Investment Analysts Journal. He has presented his research findings at numerous national and international academic conferences. In addition, he has published more than 40 articles in Greek professional magazines and the financial press and has co-authored 2 textbooks.

Efthimios Demirakos has extensive teaching experience in financial and management accounting, accounting for business combinations, corporate valuation, internal and external auditing, forensic accounting and fraud examination, accounting information systems and internal controls, and contemporary research methods in accounting. He has also served as an Adjunct Lecturer at the Hellenic Open University, where he taught courses in accounting, financial management and public sector accounting. In addition, he teaches a course in forensic accounting and fraud risk management at IESEG School of Management.

He is a member of the European Accounting Association, the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, the Institute of Internal Auditors, and the Hellenic Finance and Accounting Association.
