Folk Dancing Club

The Folk Dancing Club operates within the framework of the cultural activities at AUEB, with the objective of getting students involved with traditional Greek dances. The aim is to actively engage and sensitize students with regard to issues of folk culture, so that they can experience Greece’s rich cultural heritage.

A large number of students participate in the Club which operates for a number of hours every week. Dances and songs from all of the geographical areas of Greece are taught in the lessons. More specifically, dances are taught from Central Greece, Thessaly, Epirus, Macedonia, Thrace, the Peloponnese, the Ionian and Aegean islands and Crete, as well as from Asia Minor and the Pontus.

In addition to its major event presenting dances and customs from all parts of Greece, which takes place every year in the Antoniadou Amphitheater, the Folk Dancing Club can also participate in other events at which it is invited to perform (e.g., festivals).
