Drama Club

The Drama Club of Athens University of Economics and Business resumed its activities in 1992. Along with many other cultural activities (folk dancing, music and others), the Drama Club is part of the University Student Club, which provides its funding. Decisions on any subject related to the Club are taken collectively and equally by all members, who are primarily students at Athens University of Economics and Business, but also include students from other Universities. Moreover, the Drama Club belongs to the Panhellenic Association of Amateur Student Theater, which is a non-profit and non-governmental association.

The AUEB Drama Club offers both workshops and performances. More specifically, the workshops include various exercises (acquaintance, trust, elocution, movement and relaxation), drama games and improvisation. As part of its efforts to be autonomous and to function effectively, some of the workshops are covered by the Club’s former members. The Club also holds three series of workshops on a specific topic such as kinesiology, a theoretical approach to theatrical techniques, and a theatrical script-writing seminar given by external collaborators with a passion for theater and a willingness to contribute.

The performances are directed mainly by collaborators of the Club, while in recent years they have also been directed by former members of the Club. A significant milestone in the development of the Drama Club was the construction of a theatrical stagein a suitably-equipped area in AUEB’s Vancouver Building, where the Drama Club presented both experimental works as well as formal performances. This space is not being used any more.

The first series of workshops takes place during the period from October to December, in the Antoniadou Amphitheater, every Monday, Thursday and Friday from 19:00 to 21:30. There is a second series of workshops from January to April, and a third series from July to September, with a break during the month of August. Theworkshopsarealwaysopentothepublic.

The preparation for performances begins during the month of January and the performances take place in May. The participants in the first series of workshops have the right to participate in the performances.
