AUEB for its Students

The primary objective of the Athens University of Economics and Business is to produce and transmit new knowledge resulting from its active participation in society.

AUEB's curricula are largely inspired by the values of social responsibility and ethical behaviour in organisations. At the same time, its research, in collaboration with many companies and social partners, focuses on issues of sustainable development and proper management of environmental resources.

AUEB plans a series of actions aimed at its students, to improve their quality of life but also to cultivate a culture of solidarity and social awareness.

Scholarships

An extensive scholarship program operates, aimed at students, especially postgraduate students, as well as financial support programs.
The University based on own resources supports students financially, but also through other sources as well as in collaboration with the State Scholarships Foundation (SSF).
The Secretariats of the Departments announce the SSF candidates and set the deadlines within which the interested parties must present their supporting documents. For the financial management of all scholarships, the SSF management model is followed. The resources are allocated to the Departments and / or the Postgraduate Programs by decision of the Rector's Council.
The following scholarship programs operate at the University today:
• The "Georgios Chalkiopoulos Foundation", which grants scholarships depending on the academic performance and the financial status of the candidates.
• The "Foundation for European Studies Eleftherios Venizelos" established by professors of AUEB, NKUA and other prominent personalities of letters and arts.
•  "Faidonas G. Chatzigeorgiou"
•  "Georgia Nikolakopoulou"
• Support of AUEB’s Social Welfare Interventions: The aim of the program is to help different groups of students who need special support to meet the needs of the study programs, to make full use of the services of the institution and to complete their studies on time. The program is aimed at three groups of students: students with disabilities, students belonging to low-income groups and students who postpone the completion of their studies.
For students with disabilities, actions are provided to facilitate their physical access to the facilities of AUEB (ramps, special signage) but also their access to the services provided by the University (special equipment and accessibility software) and, finally, financial support to meet the increased cost of their living expenses during their studies at AUEB.
Provisions are made for the low-income students to meet the increased costs imposed by their studies at AUEB.
For students who postpone the completion of their studies due to health ailments, the service of prevention, diagnosis, counselling & treatment of mental problems that lead to dropouts and an extension of studies, has been reinforced.
In the framework of the implementation of the project "Improving the possibilities of access to student life at AUEB", financial aid was given to undergraduate students belonging to sensitive social groups. The first category of aid concerns students with disabilities for whom 20 grants were offered in 2018-19. The second category of aid concerns low-income students for whom 67 grants were offered in 2018-2019.
• SSF: The undergraduate program of the Department of Accounting & Finance grants five 5 SSF scholarships to its diligent & dedicated undergraduate students belonging to vulnerable social groups in 2017-18
• In 2022, the Athens University of Economics and Business gives graduates of the postgraduate program "Shipping, Finance and Management" the opportunity to study in France, choosing among four postgraduate programs. This is a new collaboration between AUEB and EDHEC Business School, which aims to encourage students' academic development and enable them to study abroad, without the financial burden of tuition.

Volunteerism

Through the organisation of thematic events, we instil in our community the values and ideals of volunteerism. The 17 UN objectives for a better, fairer, and more sustainable world are the compass of AUEB’s Volunteers.
Already 3 OPA RUNS have been completed with great success and we are planning the 4th in Pedion of Areos to propose a healthy lifestyle and promote quality neighbourhood life.
Gen Z designs future applications, starting from AUEB’s desks. It brings technology to your… nightstand and the world suddenly becomes so simple…
The little HERMES was adopted by the big HERMES and will host its bazaars and exhibitions, will receive technological assistance for its operation and training practices in handling people with disabilities. In this context, the university complements and modifies its facilities so that they are largely accessible to people with disabilities also contributing to the improvement of the environment (traffic lights).
The Social Tutoring Centres organized by the Archdiocese and the Municipality of Athens recruit every year AUEB students who tutor children from low-income families.
Every year in the framework of the Voluntary Blood Donation Days, many members of AUEB’s Community contribute to the strengthening of the blood bank of the Panagiotis and Aglaia Kyriakou Children's Hospital, offering the invaluable gift of life for many of our fellow citizens.
Emergency services are provided whenever deemed appropriate for the relief of our fellow citizens who become victims of natural catastrophes or other disasters (floods, fires, earthquakes, etc.).

The Social Benefits of AUEB’s Library

In AUEB’s Library there is online access to the Greek bibliography of the courses taught at the University by students who suffer from defective or impaired vision and generally to students who due to a disability are not able to read a printed text or perceive the content of a work using their physical senses. For this purpose, a multimodal electronic library called AMELib has been developed within the Association of Hellenic Academic Libraries, accessible to students who face vision problems. In addition, books are collected in the main reading room and then sent to libraries throughout Greece, to meet their current reading requirements.
