MSc in Business Economics with Analytics Hosts EIB Group Lectures, 8 & 15 December 2025 | Athens University of Economics and Business

 

The Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB) proudly announces the EIB Group Lectures 2025, organised for the second consecutive year in close collaboration with the European Investment Bank (EIB) Group

On Monday 8 and 15 December 2025, AUEB’s flagship MSc in Business Economics with Analytics will host a series of lectures delivered by senior experts from the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Investment Fund (EIF). 

This two-day academic and professional initiative highlights the EIB Group’s strategic role in financing innovation, sustainable development, infrastructure, renewable energy, entrepreneurship and inclusive growth in Greece, Europe, and beyond. 

Topics covered include project finance and risk management, the loan approval process, renewable energy investments and energy interconnection projects, the project cycle with a case study, EquiFund I and the newly launched EquiFund II, the EIB Group’s flagship initiative TechEU for growth financing and accelerating innovation in Europe, and the evaluation process of venture capital funds by the EIF. 

Through this initiative, AUEB further strengthens the bridge between academic excellence and European policymaking and financing, offering students and the wider academic and professional community an opportunity to gain first-hand insights into the institutions shaping Europe’s development agenda.

Lecture Series: “Science & Society in Dialogue for a Sustainable Future”

 

The Laboratory of Economic Policy Studies (ΕΜΟΠ) of the Department of Economics at the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB), in collaboration with the Hellenic Studies Program of the Yale MacMillan Center, Yale University (USA), invites you to a series of public lectures aimed at enhancing accessibility to scientific knowledge, promoting a scientific culture in Greece, and contributing to public dialogue.

We invite you to the lecture titled “Shipping and Global Trade: New Perspectives on the Role of Transport Networks and Industrial Policy.” The Augustus Cobb Professor of International Economics at Harvard University, Myrto Kalouptsidi, will present an innovative approach to connecting shipping with global trade. Using modern analytical methods, the global shipping network is mapped, and a novel framework is introduced for understanding the relationship between maritime transport and international trade. Specifically, the lecture quantifies the costs of global disruptions, evaluates investments in port infrastructure, and outlines a policy roadmap for industrial strategy aimed at sustainable prosperity.

Speaker Bio

Myrto Kalouptsidi is a Professor of Economics at Harvard University and a Faculty Associate at the Radcliffe Institute. She received her PhD in Economics from Yale University in 2011 and previously served as an Assistant Professor at Princeton University (2011–2016). Her primary research interests lie in Industrial Organization and International Trade, with a particular focus on transportation markets. Her work has examined the effects of industrial policy on the global distribution of production and welfare, as well as industry cycles and firms’ investment decisions in volatile environments.

Her current research studies global transport markets and infrastructure, exploring how they shape international trade, whether they operate efficiently, and why they are so vulnerable to disruptions. She is a recipient of the Bodossaki Award for young distinguished Greek scientists, and in 2022 her paper “Geography, Transportation, and Endogenous Trade Costs” (with Giulia Brancaccio and Theodore Papageorgiou) received the Econometric Society’s Frisch Medal for the best applied (empirical or theoretical) paper published in Econometrica over the previous four years. Professor Kalouptsidi is also a Research Fellow at the NBER and CEPR. Her research has been published in top international journals, including the American Economic ReviewEconometricaQuarterly Journal of Economics, and Review of Economic Studies.

Gold, Green, Diamond: What You Should Know About Open Access Publishing Models

Abstract

The Open Access (OA) movement is quite complex: it involves diverse principles, models, and policy frameworks. The goal of this presentation is to introduce learners to the origins and evolution of Open Access and provide insights into its objectives and global impact. We will progress into the following chapters and end with a Q&A interactive session:

  • the historical development of the Open Access movement;
  • key milestones and activities of specific pioneers that helped structure the movement;
  • Terminology and concepts of Open Access models

Audience: Current students and alumni of our MSc in Digital Methods for the Humanities program, who bring diverse perspectives and a keen interest in the intersection of technology and the humanities. Post graduate students who have never heard about OA and AUEB staff.

Format: 1-hour long followed by a Q&A session

Possible topics: The OA routes for beginners

Françoise Gouzi is working as Open Science Officer at DARIAH-EU. She is responsible for fostering and implementing Open Science practices across the DARIAH network. She contributes to the design and implementation of open science policy statements, guidelines and services related to the open dissemination of research results in the humanities.

The Department of Economics of the Athens University of Economics and Business supports the organization of the 22nd Conference on Research on Economic Theory and Econometrics, which will take place at Milos from July 10 through July 14, 2024.

This summer school involves invited faculty and PhD candidates from Greece and abroad, in various areas of economic theory and econometrics. The first meeting took place in 2002 and the series has since been continued each summer.

from the Department of International and European Economic Studies.

 

Rolf Strauch is Chief Economist and Management Board Member at the European Stability Mechanism (ESM) and the European Financial Stability Facility (EFSF), which he joined in 2010. Mr Strauch is in charge of the divisions Economic and Market Analysis, Economic Risk Analysis, and Financial Sector and Market Analysis.

Overall, he is responsible for economic and financial analysis and policies and the country monitoring work that the two rescue funds undertake. He represents the ESM in the international and European fora. Mr Strauch is also a member of advisory committees of several academic institutions.

Prior to this, Mr Strauch worked at the European Central Bank from 2000–2010 in the Directorate General Economics on fiscal, monetary, and structural policies. He also served previously as an economist at the Deutsche Bundesbank and as a researcher at both the University of Mannheim and the University of Bonn.

Mr Strauch holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Bonn. He is a fellow at the Center for European Integration Studies (ZEI) in Bonn.

He is the author of numerous articles, op-eds, blog posts, and economic publications.

20th Summer School in Risk, Finance and Stochastics RFS-2023, Hybrid, 4–8 September 2023

The 20th Summer School in Risk Finance and Stochastics, 4 - 8 September 2023 is organized by AUEB (Departments of Accounting & Finance, Business Administration, Statistics and Stochastic Modelling and Applications Laboratory) in collaboration with the University of the Aegean (Departments of Statistics & Actuarial-Financial Mathematics, Financial & Management Engineering).

The school is addressed to postgraduate students, PhD students, postdocs, researchers and practitioners who are interested to stay informed about the latest developments in the field of stochastic finance.

We are happy to announce that the school returns to its standard operation with in-person sessions, however we decided to keep a hybrid format, also enabling the online participation.

As always, we will have the pleasure and honour of having with us distinguished academics in the field. In the current Summer School, two major topics will be presented: (a) Catastrophe Risk and (b) Topological Data Analysis in Finance. Details concerning the keynote speakers as well as the program of the school will be announced through the RFS-2023 website.

There is no fee for attending the school, but interested participants should register through the form: Online RFS-2023 Registration Form, stating their name, capacity, affiliation and including a short cv (no more than 10 lines), by 28 August, so that the selection procedure can proceed on time.

The maximum number of participants will be 40 and among equivalent participants priority will be given to those who applied first.
