Prof. Phoebe Koundouri: Ambassador for the European Research Council (ERC)

We are thrilled to announce that Prof. Phoebe Koundouri has been selected as one of the 32 inaugural Ambassadors of the European Research Council (ERC).

This exciting initiative was officially launched on 28 April 2025 by the ERC in collaboration with the Association of ERC Grantees (AERG). It brings together leading researchers from 21 EU Member States and 5 Associated Countries to promote frontier research and its critical role in Europe’s sustainable and innovative future.

As an ERC Synergy Grantee and coordinator of the ERC Water Futures project — the world’s largest research initiative on next-generation urban water systems — Prof. Koundouri is deeply committed to advancing science that drives practical, systemic change.

The Ambassador network reflects a strong commitment to diversity, featuring 17 women and 15 men across a wide spectrum of disciplines, including life sciences, engineering, social sciences, and the humanities.
