Eleutherios Ath. Papathanassiou is a Professor of Business Informatics and Information Systems at the Department of Business Administration at the Athens University of Economics and Business (A.U.E.B.), and Director of the Business Informatics Laboratory (BiLAB). He holds a BSc (1969) in Mathematics and Physics of the University of Athens, and a Ph D. (1979) in Computational Science from the University of St. Andrews (Scotland). His current research interests are in the areas of Business Informatics, Information Systems, e-learning Systems, Mass Customisation, Fuzzy Logic, and Electronic Commerce. He has published a number of papers in the above areas and has also acted as referee in several Journals as, "Logistics Information Management", "IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems", "Asia Pacific Management Review", "International Journal of Operations and Production Management". Professor Papathanassiou is the author of many text books as the following ones: Elements of Computer and Information Systems, - E. Benou, Files and Databases for Business Personnel – A.U.E.B., Information Systems – A.U.E.B., Business Applications with Excel – A.U.E.B.. He is also the author of the Monograph: Programming with Polyominoes and Patterns.
Prior to his appointment at A.U.E.B., he had been appointed to national and multinational firms and public organizations as a consultant in the area of Business Informatics for many years. In the period 1979 - 1997 he taught in the Naval Academy of Greece as an Adjunct Professor. He also taught Compilers, Automata Theory & Languages, and Business programming in the Information Systems Department of A.U.E.B. (1984 - 1989). Since 1979 he has been teaching in many seminars on Microcomputers, Business Information Systems, Business Programming, Databases, Data Communications, for the Bank of Greece, the Hellenic Post, the Athens Chamber Commerce & Industry, the Hellenic Management Association, the Center for Business Research of A.U.E.B., several other public organizations and some national and multinational firms.
