George D. Stamoulis was born in Athens, Greece in 1964. He received the Diploma in Electrical Engineering (1987, with highest honours) from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece, and the MS (1988) and PhD (1991) degrees in Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA. Throughout his studies he received several fellowships and honorary awards. He is a Professor in the Department of Informatics of Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB), currently Dean of the School of Information Sciences and Technology, head of the Services, Technologies and Economics (STEcon) research group , and director of the Theory, Economics, and Systems laboratory of the Department of Informatics.

His main research interests include economics of telecommunication networks and clouds, economic mechanisms for Internet traffic and cloud resource management, mechanisms for service charging, demand response in electric energy systems, peer-to-Peer systems and reputation and recommendation formation mechanisms for electronic environments, design and evaluation of auction mechanisms for selling spectrum and adwords, for trading sensor data, and in general for the allocation of digital and network resources, as well as telecommunications and electricity regulation topics.

He has also participated in many European projects the consortia of which comprised leading European industrial and academic partners. He has also collaborated with the Greek Regulatory Authorities for Communications and Energy. He has published more than 25 articles in scientific journals (including IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networks, Telecommunications Systems, Computer Communications, IEEE Transactions on Communications, Journal of the ACM, and ΙEEE Transactions on Information Theory) as well as ~75 articles in scientific conferences (such as SmartGridComm, CloudNet, ACM e-energy, INFOCOM, ITC, ACM SIGMETRICS, GLOBECOM and GP2PC).
