COHEN SANDRA

Sandra Cohen is a Professor of Accounting in the Department of Business Administration at Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB). Her research interests lie in the fields of "Public Sector Accounting”, “Sustainability Reporting” and "Management Accounting”. Her research has been published in several ranked journals and has been presented at several international conferences.
She is a Member of the Governing Council of the Athens University of Economics and Business. She has been Deputy Rector of Research and President of Athens University and Business (AUEB-RC) Research Centre (2020), Director of the Education and Lifelong Learning Center of Athens University of Economics and Business (2018-2020) and a member of the Hellenic Accounting and Auditing Standards Oversight Board (Greek National Accounting Standards Setter) for several years.
She has been the Scientific coordinator of the project entitled "Support services for the accounting reform of General Government entities under Presidential Decree 54/2018” conducted by the AUEB and the General Accounting Office (Sept 2023-Nov 2025). She has been a Member of the team in the General Accounting Office (Ministry of Finance) for the preparation of the new Chart of Accounts for the Greek General Government and the introduction of accrual accounting in the General Government. She has been a representative of Greece to the Eurostat EPSAS Working Group (European Public Sector Accounting Standards) in three meetings. She has been the Chair of the ESG Working Group of the Educational Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Greece (2024).
She has worked as an expert for projects related to public sector accounting for the Council of Europe ("Technical Assistance Project on Institutional Enhancement for Local Governance in Greece" -2017), Expertise France ("Implementation of the accrual accounting reform in all general government entities" relating to the CFO training - Part I - Public Sector Accounting – 2021) and the World Bank (Short-Term Consultant appointment for the World Bank within the Public Sector Accounting Reform Regional (PULSAR) -Project to develop a knowledge paper on the benefits of accrual based accounting in the public sector – 2022).
She is currently the Chair of the European Accounting Association Public Sector Accounting Committee (EAA PSAC) and the Vice-Chair of the Comparative International Governmental Accounting Research (CIGAR) Network Board. She is a member of the Editorial Board of FAM, PMM, JAOC, JPBAFM, and IJPSM. She has been the guest co-editor in several special issues in academic journals. She is also the co-editor of two books in English related to accounting and sustainability reporting -SDGs in the public sector, four books in Greek (including one in Public Sector Accounting) and the co-editor of the Public Sector Financial Management Book Series published by Palgrave.
She teaches Public Sector accounting at the postgraduate level and she is the scientific coordinator in two vocational programs in public sector accounting and in the new accounting framework for the General Government.
She has been awarded the Best Tutor Award by the Department of Business Administration four times and the Outstanding Reviewer Award by the Emerald Literati Awards twice.
