Vanghelis Vassilatos is a Professor at the Department of Economics of the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB). He started his academic career in 1999 as a lecturer at the University of Ioannina. He has been at the Athens University of Economics and Business since 2003, initially as a lecturer and then as an assistant and later associate professor.

His fields of interest are Macroeconomic Theory and Policy, Dynamic Stochastic General Equilibrium (DSGE) Models, Public Finance, Growth, Business Cycles and Political Economy.

His research has been published in international academic journals, such as, among others, European Economic Review, Review of Economic Dynamics, Journal of Economic Dynamics & Control, Oxford Economic Papers, European Journal of Political Economy, International Journal of Central Banking, Economic Modelling.

His current research activity focuses on growth, business cycles, economic policy and political economy issues in dynamic, stochastic and/or deterministic general equilibrium models. The emphasis is on models with market and/or policy frictions as well as the introduction of political economy features in such models.

He has been invited to present his work at various departments and research institutes around the world. He has also participated and presented his work at a large number of international conferences.

He is currently head of the Econometrics Lab at the Department of Economics (AUEB) and a research associate at the Institute of Economic Policy Studies (IMOP). Former positions include Lecturer in Economics at the University of Ioannina and Public Finance Researcher at the Foundation for Economic and Industrial Research (IOBE). Since January 2021 he is secretary general of the Association of Southern European Economic Theorists (ASSET).

His teaching load comprises of, among others, Economic Policy and Macroeconomic Theory I in the undergraduate program and Dynamic optimization, Macroeconomic Theory II, Dynamic Macroeconomics and Public Economics in the graduate program.

He holds a B.Sc in Economics from the Department of Statistics and Information Science of AUEB, a M.A in Economics from the Department of Economics of AUEB and a Ph.D in Economics from the Department of Economics of AUEB.
