Evangelos Markakis is a Professor at the Department of Informatics of the Athens University of Economics and Business. He received his PhD in Computer Science (2005) from the Georgia Institute of Technology, USA and the title of his PhD thesis is "Algorithmic Aspects of Game Theory and Microeconomics". He then worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Toronto, Canada (2005-2006) and at the Center for Research in Mathematics and Computer Science (CWI) in the Netherlands (2007-2008). He has also served as a Visiting Professor at Stanford University, USA during the spring semester of 2014.
His research interests focus on the intersection of Theoretical Computer Science and Algorithmic Game Theory, with emphasis on the design and analysis of algorithms, the study of incentive models for mechanism design, and applications to problems involving the fair allocation of resources, game-theoretic studies of blockchains, and voting theory.
His research has been funded by national and EU research projects, and he has served as a management committee member in EU academic networks on game theory, and social choice theory. Finally, since February 2023, he is affiliated as a collaborating researcher at the Archimedes Unit of the Athena Research Center.
