KATSAFADOS APOSTOLOS
Apostolos Katsafados is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Accounting and Finance at the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB). He holds a B.Sc. in Economics, an M.Sc. in Applied Economics, and a Ph.D. in Finance from the Athens University of Economics and Business. During his doctoral studies, he was awarded prestigious scholarships by the Onassis Foundation and the State Scholarships Foundation (IKY).
Previously, he served as an Adjunct Professor at the Athens University of Economics and Business and the University of West Attica, where he taught undergraduate courses in Finance, including Portfolio Management, Investment Appraisal, Business Economics, and Microeconomics.
Alongside his academic career, he serves as a Financial Advisor at the Bank of Greece in the Risk Management Department. Previously, he worked in the Statistics Department, where he contributed to the development of the official Greek Internal Credit Assessment System (Greek ICAS), which has been approved by the European Central Bank (ECB). He has also served as a consultant to the Bodossaki Foundation as part of the Social Dynamo programme.
His research and teaching interests focus on Corporate Finance, Banking, and Financial Stability. His current research explores the application of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and natural language processing (NLP) techniques to finance, with a particular emphasis on credit risk prediction, corporate text analytics, the quantitative analysis of central bank communication, and the extraction and analysis of data from social media and online review platforms to examine corporate behaviour and financial markets.
His research has been published in leading international peer-reviewed journals, including the European Journal of Operational Research, Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions & Money, Annals of Operations Research, International Journal of Finance & Economics, as well as other international academic journals.
