The Distributional Impact of Social Transfers in the European Union: Evidence from the ECHP
Christopher Heady, Theodore Mitrakos and Panos Tsakloglou
ABSTRACT
Social transfers as a proportion of GDP vary enormously across the member-states of the European Union. The composition of these transfers has been examined in the past in a comparative framework, but such an exercise has not been performed regarding their distributional impact. The paper aims to fill this gap, using the micro-data of the second wave of the European Community Household Panel for thirteen countries.
