She is Associate Professor at the Department of International and European Economic Studies, Athens University of Economics and Business (Greece) and the Director of the Research Team on Socio-Economic and Environmental Sustainability (ReSEES, She is also Senior Research Fellow at the London School of Economics and Political Science, Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment. Before, she held academic positions at the University of Cambridge, University College London, University of Reading, London Business School, and visiting positions at the Toulouse School of Economics, University of Cyprus, Cyprus Institute, among others. Her research focuses on Environmental and Natural Resources Economics and Econometrics. She has published 12 edited books and more than 250 articles in edited volumes and top-ranked academic journals. She is a highly cited author in her scientific field (Harzing's Publish or Perish: more than 2020; Google Scholar: more than 2020; General Google: more than 43,900 hits). She is co-editor of the official journal of the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists, associate editor and editorial board member in 17 academic journals in the field of economics, and has supervised a number of PhD students, all of them now working in academia. In 2012 Phoebe Koundouri was elected Council Member of the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (EAERE, and she is currently the EAERE Vice President and Newsletter Editor. She is also Core Member of the Scientific Committee of the John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation. Since 1996, Phoebe Koundouri has coordinated and/or participated in more than 50 research and consultancy projects on natural resources and environmental management funded by the European Commission, World Bank, OECD, UN, NATO, WHO, as well as many other international and national organizations and governments of developed and developing countries. Over the last two decades Phoebe Koundouri has given academic and public lecturers all over the world, organized a number of international conferences, mainly in the field of water resource economics and management, and received scholarships and prizes for academic excellence from various academic institutions and foundations. She is included in various Who's Who and has recently (in 2012) received the 2009 Publication Award of the European Association of Agricultural Economists.
