Photo Welcome to my personal web pages. I am Associate Professor in the Department of Informatics, Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB), head of AUEB's Natural Language Processing Group, and Adjunct Researcher of the Digital Curation Unit of the Institute for the Management of Information Systems, Research Centre "Athena". My expertise is in Artificial Intelligence, especially Natural Language Processing. Most of my publications are available on-line, some with accompanying software and datasets. My web pages also contain information on the research projects I am involved in, the courses that I teach, the student projects that I have supervised or that I propose, and ways to contact me.

My current research interests include the following topics:

  • natural language question-answering for databases, ontologies, document collections, and the Web,
  • natural language generation from databases and ontologies, especially Semantic Web ontologies,
  • text summarization, including query-focused summarization,
  • paraphrasing and textual entailment, and their use in question answering and text summarization,
  • document classification, including hierarchical text classification and spam filtering,
  • opinion mining, including sentiment analysis,
  • natural language processing tools for Greek, for example part-of-speech taggers and named-entity recognizers,
  • machine learning in natural language processing,
  • natural language processing in digital curation.

I participate in the organization of the Large Scale Hierarchical Text Classification challenges, the BioASQ challenges, and the SemEval Aspect-Based Sentiment Analysis task. You can find more information about me in my CV (in English and Greek).
